Potato Days 2009
Another busy week-end in Oldham S.D. as we wrapped up Potato Days 2009. It rained on our parade, but that didn’t stop over 50 entrants in the parade. We kept the schedule going and by early afternoon the rain stopped and we had the kids tractor pull and the couch potato races on Main Street. I know the tractor pull is for the kids, but it sure is fun to see the parents and grandparents get so excited for their kids. They almost burst trying to get that extra tug in for the kids. I’m glad everyone turns out for the fun day.
I think my favorite thing is meeting someone on the street or at the meal at night that you really aren’t expecting to see. It is so good to see familliar faces. I also love to hear the comments about how grandkids who never grew up here love to come for Potato Days. It’s like something they have always done. A homecomming for them too.
Hats off to our music for the day. The kids all enjoyed the rappers, and most of us enjoyed the rock and roll. Some comments were that it was too loud, however the move to the gym was part of that and I can assure you if Lawrence Welk was there that would have been just as loud. The open park is the better place for the music. A BIG Thank You to “Street Legal” for comming down and performing for us.
Sunday morning was a beautiful church service. So many tallented people played and sang before the service making the service a little delayed. Why shouldn’t it be delayed everything else was this week-end. A special Thank-You to our wonderful clergy who prepared the service and brought us all together as a community. God Bless America! Where we have that right to worship and speak freely.
Most of all a big Thank-You to Holly B. Jay H. Darlene D. Marie B. and all the others who are on the Potato Day committee and work so hard all year long to find new ventures, talents, and things for us to do. We are always looking for new people to be on the committee so some of us can take a break. Please think about joining us at our next meeting. Also send us an e-mail if you have an idea that we could use.
