Home Away from Home Up and Going
Home Away from Home is ready and waiting for you to spend the night here in Oldham. We have completed most all the major renovations and are proud of what we have done. It was great to have our first guests and to get some feedback on what we need to add. We are hoping to get some pictures on the blog. If you are traveling through Oldham or comming to see family and need a place to stay give us a call. Mike and Connie Bickett

Hi: Wish your place was available last November 2007 when my younger sister and I traveled from Everett, WA to the old homestead in Oldham, SD. The original house and barn burnt down years ago but the 160 acres was originally purchased in 1883 for $4.00 by my great grandfather William Harold Hyde. Eventually all of the Hyde boys died off and Carmody’s farmed the land up until just recently when we sold it to the Heuterites (?). We might be coming back in the Summer 2009 to visit the Oldham Saloon which I understand was built by my great uncle, Frank Hyde. What are the nightly/weekly rates for your rental home? Thanks much, Sherry Hyde Lewis

Mike and Connie,
Let me see, how long has it been? I’m thinking maybe 20 years now since our last encounter. Well, I am alive and we are well. living in Saint Joseph, Mo. with wife Lynn of the last 14 years.
at last count, between Lynn and I we have the five offspring, 3 boys and 2 girls who among them have 18 offspring of their own. Last October we had a chance to get most of them at the same place for a very long weekend, 4 were missing, 25 showed up, one was born later to Robert who lives in Colorado. if you read this send me an e-mail and maybe I’ll send you a couple pictures of the clan or something. oh, mom and dad moved back to Madison but I suppose you knew that already. bye now.

What are your rates? How many bedrooms / bath? Do you take hunters? Is there a place (garage) for dogs?
